The pump decides how long refuelling takes. Get it wrong and a well-specified bowser becomes the slowest part of your morning.

Work it out in minutes, not litres per minute
Flow rate on a spec sheet means nothing until you convert it to time at your tank sizes.
- 400 L machine tank at 40 L/min → about 10 minutes
- Same tank at 15 L/min → about 27 minutes
Now multiply by machines per day and days per month. On a fleet of six that difference is roughly 100 hours a year of someone standing next to a nozzle.
Choosing
Go manual if you dispense occasionally, have no power at the point of use, and volume is genuinely low. It is cheap and it does not fail in interesting ways.
Go 12V for anything mobile. It is the default for trailer bowsers and field refuelling. Watch battery draw if you are running long sessions with the vehicle off.
Go 220V where there is power and throughput matters — depots, workshops, static bulk installations. Higher sustained flow and it does not care how long you run it.
Things people forget
- Hose length and diameter. A long narrow hose throttles a good pump. Specify reach for how you actually park.
- Nozzle type. Automatic shut-off nozzles stop overfills. Worth it the first time someone gets distracted.
- Filtration. Diesel contamination kills injectors. A filter is cheaper than the repair.
- Metering. If you need fuel cost per machine or per job, specify the flowmeter up front.
